September 2018 – Trustee Greetings for School Newsletters

Message From Our Trustee

I am pleased to welcome all of our students and families to the start of the 2018-2019 school year. This is an exciting time of year. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and is looking forward to the months ahead.

York Region District School Board is committed to advancing student achievement and well-being. The Trustees’ new Multi-Year Strategic Plan, developed based on feedback from the community, outlines four priorities that will guide this work: Foster Well-Being and Mental Health, Champion Equity and Inclusivity, Build Collaborative Relationships and Empower Ethical Leadership. Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts.

Our schools are stronger when families are engaged. There are many different ways families can support their child’s learning and get involved in life at the school, and I hope that you find opportunities to get engaged.

I wish you all the best for the upcoming school year.

Reporting Student Absences and Lates as of Monday, June 25th, 2018

June 22, 2018

Reporting Student Absences and Lates as of Monday, June 25th, 2018

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are pleased to let you know that we have a new telephone attendance reporting system.  This is in addition to online absence reporting through Edsby.

Regular and punctual attendance affects school success and is expected of all students. You are responsible for notifying the school before the bell time if your child will be absent or late. We have a safe arrivals program so that we can account for the whereabouts of absent students if the absence has not been reported prior to bell time.

To enhance our safe arrivals system, this new telephone system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance. It will also confirm student absences that have not been verified by automatically calling you.

You will no longer report absences to the Synrevoice/SchoolConnects system.

Starting from Monday, June 25th, if your child is going to be absent or late, please let us know before bell time by:

  1. Calling the school’s main phone line at (905) 707-6488 and select the option “To report a student absence or late.”

 or

2. Logging in to Edsby and using the “Report an Absence” feature.  For more information on reporting your child’s attendance through Edsby, please see the online video tutorial to learn more (bit.ly/edsbyabsence).

Long-term absences or absences beyond the following day can be reported through Edsby or by contacting the school or your child’s teacher. If your child will miss more than 5 consecutive days of school, you must complete the Request for Vacation Form available through the school.

Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to ensure the safety of our students.  Please feel free to contact us with any further questions.

Your partners in education,

Arin Otis, Principal

News from VPPS School Council

Dear Ventura Park Families,

As our school year is almost finished, we want to take a moment to celebrate all of our Ventura accomplishments.  This year we were able to increase the technology for students, support performing arts, sponsor two math contests, purchase a new scoreboard in our gym, and fund part of graduation.

School Council is able to do this with your help and our parent volunteers who assist with pizza, subs and other events during the year.  – Thank you!

I would like to thank the members of our School Council, who helped gather our community together for various events.

Also, BIG thanks to our school admin and school staff for supporting council’s initiatives.

Our year is always finishes with our annual Fun Fair. This year we really want to thank Julie Stein and Pam Braude for all their time, effort and creativity! These two, along with the many parent volunteers worked extremely hard to make our Fun Fair a huge success.

Dennis Lazovski, VPPS School Council Chair

We wish you and your families a safe and healthy summer,

See you in SEPTEMBER!
