Late bus issues for Ventura Park

Good afternoon parents and guardians!

As most of you are aware, there are a number of late buses recently due to the ongoing construction around VPPS.  As a result, traffic is unusually slow on both Bathurst and Dufferin streets.  This means that both morning buses and afternoon buses will be running more slowly than usual until the construction is completed.  For any further inquiries, please log onto www.schoolbuscity.com to check on bus issues.

Welcome Back to VPPS for the Start of our 2018-19 school year

As we approach the Labour Day Weekend, Tuesday September 4 is almost here, as we prepare to re-open our doors for the 2018-19 school year.  As the Principal of Ventura Park PS, I am very excited to meet all of our new and returning students and families.

Just a reminder of the first day procedures:

Grade 1 Students will be met by staff at their buses.  They will then be directed to the GYM, where their teachers will meet and greet them.  All other students are asked to meet at the back of the school where they will be met by staff who have alphabetical lists and placement information for all students.  Homerooms will be spread out along the back wall of the school. Parents and guardians who drive their children to school can join the students on the tarmac to see who their children’s teachers are.

Please be advised that school starts at 9:00 am.  Morning recess is from 11:00 – 11:20 am.  Our lunch hour is 12:40-1:40 pm. Classes are dismissed by 3:20 pm.  For the first day, please ensure that your child brings a lunch and snacks.

We are encouraging parents/guardians to put their children on the bus (where eligible).  If you haven’t found your bus information yet, you may do so by visiting www.schoolbuscity.com.  If you choose to drive to VPPS on Tuesday, please park one of the adjacent streets and walk to school, as the bus loop is reserved for buses, and our parking lot is reserved for staff.  Your children’s safety and well-being are our primary concern, and we want to start the year off by following these important routines.

We ask that all students enjoy the last long weekend of the summer.  The entire staff and I are so excited to see you on Tuesday, September 4, ready for another spectacular school year.

Yours Truly,

Arin Otis, Proud Principal, Ventura Park PS

Message From Our Trustee

I am pleased to welcome all of our students and families to the start of the 2018-2019 school year. This is an exciting time of year. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and is looking forward to the months ahead.

York Region District School Board is committed to advancing student achievement and well-being. The Trustees’ new Multi-Year Strategic Plan, developed based on feedback from the community, outlines four priorities that will guide this work: Foster Well-Being and Mental Health, Champion Equity and Inclusivity, Build Collaborative Relationships and Empower Ethical Leadership. Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts.

Our schools are stronger when families are engaged. There are many different ways families can support their child’s learning and get involved in life at the school, and I hope that you find opportunities to get engaged.

I wish you all the best for the upcoming school year.
