Library ART

We are so proud of our School wide project examining elements of equity and leadership. Many thanks to students, teachers, parents and artist Cindy Scaife for this modern and impressive work of art.

Important note about October 15

Dear Families,

As a reminder, on Friday, October 15, school staff will engage in professional learning on the hybrid model.

Schools will be closed to students on Friday, October 15. Please do not send your child to school.

Asynchronous (not live) learning activities will be posted in your child’s online classroom to support their continued learning. If your child requires technology to access learning on October 15, 2021, please contact the school office via email before 2:00pm on Thursday October 14, 2021. (ventura.park.ps@yrdsb.ca)

Updates at Ventura

  • Thank you for your understanding but parents are still not allowed in the school unless there is a pre-arranged exemption
  • lunch drop offs are not available at this time
  • pick up time is at 3:20 pm and children cannot be released before the bell
  • please do not park in the front loop or the staff parking lot
  • students who are bussed must travel on the bus they have been assigned- switching busses for playdates will not be permitted
  • children must follow bus safety rules
  • helmets must be worn by students who ride bikes to and from school
  • please try to keep student pick up to a minimum; we are very busy at the office and we really try not to interrupt instructional time for each class

We are grateful for your understanding during these challenging times.
Happy long weekend!

Covid-19 FAQs about Absence

Dear families,

Recently, we have had some questions from families about absences and accessing virtual learning. We wanted to share with you a link to the YRDSB Covid-19 FAQ page, which may be of assistance to families as questions arise. The FAQ page can be found at: https://www2.yrdsb.ca/about-us/covid-19/covid-19-frequently-asked-questions

If you have questions regarding a face-to-face student being able to access virtual learning due to an absence, please scroll down to the section of the FAQ page titled Learning Model Selection. The first three sections, shown in the photo below, will likely be of assistance in answering most questions.

It is important to note that the majority of homeroom classes at Ventura Park are not currently hybrid. In the event of a student needing to access online learning, families should expect 48 hours turnaround time for teachers to prepare for hybrid learning.

We have also had a number of inquiries regarding hybrid learning and family vacations outside of Canada. Please note that while unvaccinated children of fully vaccinated parents have some exemptions from quarantine, unvaccinated children cannot attend school for 14 days after returning to Canada. As per the guidelines outlined in the Board FAQs, students will not be able to access virtual learning during a vacation, and classes that are not hybrid are not required to become hybrid for an unvaccinated student needing to self-isolate from school after travel.

If you have any questions not covered by the Board’s FAQ page linked above, please contact the office.

Thank you,
Greg Farrell and Melanie Chamberland
