School Bus Cancellation Notice

To ensure the safety of students, school bus service may be cancelled due to inclement weather, extreme temperatures and/or poor road conditions.  In these cases, parents and students should develop alternate care/transportation arrangements.

Cancellation decisions will only be made after thorough consultation with the Safety Officers of school bus companies servicing York Region and are based on several factors including precipitation, air temperature, road conditions and weather forecast.

Please note the following:

  • A decision to cancel school bus service will be region-wide meaning all school buses, vans and taxis will not operate.
  • School bus routes may be cancelled when severe weather may not be affecting all municipalities in York Region.  Both the YRDSB and YCDSB operate many regional educational programs.  Students attending these programs are transported over large attendance areas encompassing several municipal boundaries.  This limits the ability to cancel bus service using a municipality or zone methodology.
  • When bus service is cancelled all school tests and/or examinations will be cancelled and rescheduled.
  • Student trips involving the use of school buses will also be cancelled.
  • Unless otherwise stated, schools will remain open and parents can make arrangements to transport their children to and from school even if school bus service is cancelled.  If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not operate in the afternoon.  Therefore students transported to school by parents will require the same transportation home.

Parents, students and school staff are asked to access the following radio and television stations after 6am to receive bus cancellation information:

VPPS Fall Book Fair 2016

book-fair

November 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our Fall Scholastic Book Fair will begin on Friday November 18th and end on Friday November 25th, 2016. The Book Fair will be primarily a French Fair, however, there will be English books available for students in grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Students will have an opportunity to preview the books at the fair with their classroom teacher and create a “Wish List” to bring home. Students will be able to purchase books during the school day according to a pre-set schedule. In order to avoid lost money, it is recommended that parents send a cheque (payable to Ventura Park PS) instead of cash with their child. I encourage parents to discuss the purchase(s) that their child is intending to make in order to avoid the purchase of a non-parent approved item (poster, pens, markers, erasers etc.); sending the name of the item(s) you wish your child to purchase, is very helpful. The Book Fair will be open during interviews on Thursday November 24th (3:30 pm – 8:00 pm) and Friday November 25th (9:00 am – 12:00 noon).

Being a part of this special event is easier than you think and there are many ways to volunteer, including:

  • Helping to set-up and create book displays before the fair begins
  • Greeting students, teachers and parents at the fair
  • Working at our cashier table or working at our pre-paid re-order table
  • Helping students and parents select the “just right” book
  • Packing up the books at the end of the fair

If you are available to volunteer at our Spring Scholastic Book Fair, please click on the link provided  http://bit.ly/volunteerVPPSbookfair to direct you to an online form to fill out, or, if you would prefer a paper copy please print page 2 of this letter and return to Mme Matthews by Tuesday November 15th 2016.

I will send each volunteer a confirmation of their date and time.

Thank-you for your support!

Mme Matthews
