Dressing for the Weather

The winter weather has arrived much sooner than any of us expected, but the snow and cold air are here for the foreseeable future.  This is just a reminder that, except in very extreme cold temperatures, students will be going outside for one 20 minute recess in the morning and one 40 minute recess in the afternoon.  This means students need to come dressed appropriately to be out in whatever the weather is that day – warm coats, hats, mittens or gloves, boots and snowpants.  This will allow students to play safely outside and enjoy our Canadian winter.  Parents are also encouraged to send an extra pair of socks, mitts and/or pants as these items often get wet and cold in the winter months.

As per the YRDSB Extreme Cold Weather Guideline, when the temperature and/or wind chill are at -20 degrees Celsius or below, indoor recess will be considered.  When temperatures and/or wind chill reach minus 18-19 degrees Celsius, a shortened outdoor recess will be considered.
