Good Morning VPPS Families,
We have had some incredible first days of school here at VPPS, and we wanted to thank everyone for their support as we got this year started. As we move through the rest of this week and in the coming weeks, classes will continue to get to know one another and build a sense of community. Teachers will be sending home communication on how to stay in touch – remember that parents and guardians are important partners in each child’s education and we value the home and school connection.
Absences/Lates: Our iNFORM and our Edsby programs are up and running and available 24 hours a day. Please report all absences before 9:00 a.m. If we cannot reach you to confirm the whereabouts of your child within the first hour of school, we will have to contact York Regional Police. There are no exceptions to this and it extends to all absences (appointments, illness, religious holidays, vacations). Multiple days can be reported at once using the Edsby system. Student safety is paramount.
Toys and Items of Value: We encourage students to leave any items of value, and/or toys, at home. These should not be brought to school, as we cannot be responsible for loss/damage.
Lunches: Please send lunch with your children as we prefer to not be interrupting classes with drop-offs. Students in Grade 7 & 8 with parent permission can leave school property for lunch to go home. Permission will be required through the school start-up forms sent by YRDSB later this week and early next week. There will also be a Google Form shared with you to fill out and provide permission. Both forms must be completed in order for students to sign-out for lunch. Emails and phone calls will not replace this permission form. For all other students who wish to leave at lunch, the form must be filled out and students are to be signed out by a legal guardian. Specific arrangements must be made with the Principal or Vice-Principal if there are special circumstances.
Hot Lunch Programs: We are looking to start hot lunches shortly. Stay Tuned! More info to follow.
School Council: Parent voice is important to us. School council serves as an opportunity for the school to share details on the things happening in the building, but it also allows parents to provide input into some decisions that the Principal, Vice-Principal and staff are making. We also provide a chance for parents to ask questions and to support the school with community engagement events and fundraising. You do not need to officially ‘join’ the council as a voting member to attend – everyone is welcome! We always have child minding and refreshments. If you are interested in a voting position, nomination forms will be in the school start-up forms sent by YRDSB later this week or early next week. Our first meeting will be in the library on Wednesday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m.. More details will follow next week, but save the date and we hope many of you come out and see what it is all about!
Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Night: Save the date – Thursday, September 21st! Everyone is invited to come out to the school to hear more about the program in your child(ren)’s class. Timing and format will be shared soon.
M Farrell and Mme Cucullo
The school’s Lost & Found box has been moved to tables outside the of the office, parents are welcome to check the tables for any missing articles. Parents please ask your children to look through the items for anything they might be missing. The tables will be out today until Thursday, June 29th @4:00pm

Good afternoon Ventura families,
As our year wraps up, we are hoping you could check at home for any technology belonging to VPPS (e.g., Chromebooks, chargers, etc.), that may have borrowed this year or during our hybrid learning time. If you locate any technology that has not yet been returned, please send it back to Ventura Park PS by the end of day on Friday, June 30th. We are in the process of doing a year-end technology inventory.
Thank you for your support,
The VPPS Team
Dear families,
Environment Canada has once again issued an Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) statement for the Greater Toronto Area advising that high levels of air pollution are possible due to smoke from forest fires in Quebec and northeastern Ontario.
The current forecast indicates that the situation with the Air Quality Health Index is likely to continue throughout the day.
As a result, we will be holding indoor recess today and our Playday will be moved indoors. We appreciate this may be disappointing as we near the end of the school year.
Recently Ventura Park PS has upgraded their ventilation system throughout the school as well as has air conditioning in various locations.
As always, we will continue to follow the advice of Environment Canada and York Region Public Health and prioritize student and staff safety. As the situation evolves, we will continue to provide families with information.
