Potential School Closure and Technology Distribution

Hello families,

We will be distributing technology today and during Parent Teacher Interviews in the event that there is a school closure beginning on Monday, November 21, 2022.

If you requested technology on Monday, November 7, you do not need to request technology again. We will be sending technology home with your child today.

If you require technology and did not request it, please send an email to laura.cucullo@yrdsb.ca. Please provide your child’s name and homeroom teacher name in your email. We will do our best to get this technology to you before or at your Parent Teacher Interview.

Thank you for your support with this,

M. Farrell and Mme. Cucullo

Holocaust Awareness Week

Joel Katzberg is the founder and CEO of 3GTO, Toronto Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors. Katzberg believes that, “As a living link to these experiences, our 3G (Grandchildren) community of survivors preserves the legacies and the lessons of the Holocaust.  (Their) objective is to advocate about the dangers of racism and intolerance, and to build relationships with community and educational institutions.”

Irene Kurtz was born in 1928 in Warsaw, Poland. At 11 years old, Irene and her family were forced into the Warsaw ghetto. In 1941, her mother and her sister were taken away. Her two older brothers fled to Russia to join the army and Irene was left alone with her father. In April 1943, during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, her father hid her in a bunker while he went out to work, and he never returned. Irene escaped was caught by a Nazi officer and put on the next transport to Majdanek. After spending two months in Majdanek, Irene was then selected for a transport going to Skarzysko ammunition factory. She worked there until liberation in 1945 by Soviet troops. Irene is a Holocaust survivor and shares her stories with school groups to help educate others through her lived experiences.
